Re: Broken Package(s) Prevents Update

Are you ready for chapter two? I'm getting an identical error message today when trying to update, but this time with alsa-lib:

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
Should we use the testing repo for alsa-lib, or just wait a few days?

Re: Broken Package(s) Prevents Update

Code:
sudo yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update
Got me over the alsa-lib issue (and wine/spotify playing as I type this).

Re: Broken Package(s) Prevents Update

I too have the same problem. I did a fresh install today and I get the following when trying to update the system.

Code:
Error: Package: alsa-utils-1.0.25-7.fc16.x86_64 (updates)
           Requires: alsa-lib >= 1.0.25
           Installed: alsa-lib-1.0.24-2.fc15.x86_64 (@koji-override-0/$releasever)
               alsa-lib = 1.0.24-2.fc15
 You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
 You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
Any ideas?

Re: Broken Package(s) Prevents Update

More info here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=790474

So:
# yum --skip-broken update

Then wait till the repos update for a full solution.

You might want to make this (that is specifically update only alsa-utils):
Quote:

sudo yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update alsa-utils

otherwise yum will try to update hundreds of packages onto your system from updates-testing

Re: Broken Package(s) Prevents Update

Problem was solved with:

yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update alsa-lib
yum update

Thanks to all who helped again. I think we should all bookmark this thread in case it keeps happening for some reason. Thanks again.

Re: Broken Package(s) Prevents Update

You could also just wait one or two days. Usually those dependency problems are resolved till then. And if you really _need_ a certain update _now_, you can just update that certain package by "yum update PACKAGE"... No need to have some strange workarounds or update from updates-testing...

Sometimes I get the impression that many users just update, because they can - even though they don't really _need_ the most recent versions...

Wonderful! After quite a bit of searching, this is the solution that worked for me.

Thank you!

Re: Broken Package(s) Prevents Update

Currently, I use the 64-bit Scientific Linux 6.2, based on RHEL, minus RedHat "proprietary" trademarks (the
Registered TM content). Upstream, there is part (maybe not all) of Fedora.
I'm also having trouble installing/updating a few packages:

# yum update
[...]
---> Package libavcodec52.x86_64 0:0.7.11-52.el6 will be installed
--> Processing Dependency: libvpx.so.1()(64bit) for package: libavcodec52-0.7.11-52.el6.x86_64
--> Processing Dependency: libva.so.1()(64bit) for package: libavcodec52-0.7.11-52.el6.x86_64
[...]
and Finally:

--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Package: libavcodec52-0.7.11-52.el6.x86_64 (atrpms)
Requires: libvpx.so.1()(64bit)

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

Whatever the matter is with " libvpx.so.1()(64bit)" [a shared object ? ] , or otherwise,
these few packages don't upgradre and/or install:

Package gstreamer-ffmpeg.x86_64 0:0.10.11-4.el6 will be an update
Package ffmpeg-libpostproc.x86_64 0:0.6.5-1.el6.rf will be installed
Package libavcodec52.x86_64 0:0.7.11-52.el6 will be installed (*****)
Package libavformat52.x86_64 0:0.7.11-52.el6 will be installed
Package libavutil50.x86_64 0:0.7.11-52.el6 will be installed
Package libswscale0.x86_64 0:0.7.11-52.el6 will be installed
Package dirac-libs.x86_64 0:1.0.2-4.el6 will be installed
Package libavcodec52.x86_64 0:0.7.11-52.el6 will be installed
Package librtmp.x86_64 0:2.3-1.el6.rf will be installed
Package libva1.x86_64 0:1.0.15-7.el6 will be installed
Package libx264_118.x86_64 0:0.118-17_20111111.2245.el6 will be installed
Package libxavs1.x86_64 0:0.1.51-2.el6 will be installed
Package libxvidcore4.x86_64 0:1.2.2-14.el6 will be installed
Package schroedinger.x86_64 0:1.0.10-1.el6.rf will be installed
Package libavcodec52.x86_64 0:0.7.11-52.el6 will be installed
Package orc.x86_64 0:0.4.16-6.el6 will be installed

And it always seems to go to "root cause":
Package libavcodec52.x86_64 0:0.7.11-52.el6 (*****)

As suggested by the following:
Error: Package: libavcodec52-0.7.11-52.el6.x86_64 (atrpms)
Requires: libvpx.so.1()(64bit)

No fixes found. No work-arounds found.

Re: Broken Package(s) Prevents Update

libavcodec52 was installed from the atrpms repo, and has to be removed before you can update the other packages.

Code:
su -
(root password)

yum remove libavcodec52

yum update
