how to get a desktop navigator like the one in Windows ?
I mean a navigator like the one found in Windows system.
it has horizontal and vertical drop down options...so we don't have to open several folder to reach out to the one buried very deep.
Please see the attached image to get an idea of what i'm trying to ask for.

There's an option in Nautilus Preferences to control whether this shows files or just folders.
The main problem with this Tree is that it indents and gets quite wide with nested folders.
yeah...i've tried that!
But it is not what i'm trying to do...I'm trying to get a desktop navigator right on activities panel...accessible from everywhere.

In KDE that's the Quick Access Widget. There should be an extension for Gnome Shell, if that's what you're using. Can't remember what it's called though. It used to be the 'Places' menu in Gnome 2.
