Why? No idea.

How to change?
Edit the name entry in the file /usr/share/applications/nautilus.desktop to whatever you want and that should be all that is needed.

do you know , if i want to change an app icon, in which of the resolution sub dirs should i situate the PNG and whether i need to map it somewhere in some property file? i tried putting one in the 256x256 dir (which is what my icon was) but it didn't get picked up by the system.

I have placed an image in the scalable directory and it has worked for me in the past ...

Re: why does Nautilus appear under the name Files in the app menu?

OK, thanks. do you know if SVG vs PNG matters?

---------- Post added at 02:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:05 AM ----------

i think it does. all the icons in the scalable dir are SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics). PNG is not scalable, i put it in the scalable dir and it didn't get picked up

You can also edit the .desktop file to specify the location of the image I think (my be, not sure).
