How-To use a Epson Perfection 1670 scanner with FC2/FC3

To use it :

Install this packages with yum :

xsane, sane-backends, sane-frontends, xsane-gimp (to use xsane directly in gimp)

You can check if there packages are already installed with this command :

rpm - qa |grep -i name_of_the_package , for eg : rpm -qa | grep -i sane

After this, you have to download the firmware of the scanner. IT'S ONLY FOR THE EPSON PERFECTION 1670 OR EPSON PERFECTION 1670 PHOTO.

You can find it here .

Copy this file in /usr/share/epson.

Now, as root, edit this file : /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf

You will find, at the beginning this line :

firmware /path/to/your/firmware/file.bin

change it to :

firmware /usr/share/epson/ESFW30.BIN

Save it and close it.

Now plug your scanner in a usb port.

To check if your scanner is recognize try this commands :
lsusb
sane-find-scanner
scanimage -L

If it's OK, in a console, run xsane like this : xsane &

It might be a little time to launch because firmware have to be uploaded to the scanner.

Have Fun !!

P.S : I'm not a specialist ine photography and i'm searching a good tuto to reduce the "moiré" effect when i scan a image (with gimp or directly tuning with scan parameters). I don't know the word in english, a picture would be better :-)

Thank you
