F15: fdisk unable to write partition table for sd card

I have several 2GB SD cards that I partitioned using fdisk with an earlier version of Fedora. When I insert them with F15, they get mounted automatically as readonly (physical write protection is disabled). If I unmount the partitions and run fdisk, it says

Code:
# fdisk /dev/sda
You will not be able to write the partition table.
It's the same thing for all of them. Any idea what would be preventing me from being able to repartition the cards?

From /var/log/messages on insert:

Code:
Mar 29 00:20:32 server1 kernel: [48412.460435] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] 3842048 512-byte logical blocks: (1.96 GB/1.83 GiB)

Inserting the same cards into another F15 machine, they are writable. The same initial messages are generated, but apparently the partitions are not automatically mounted:

Code:
Mar 29 07:33:11 server2 kernel: [12402704.745301] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] 3911680 512-byte logical blocks: (2.00 GB/1.86 GiB)
Mar 29 07:33:11 server2 kernel: [12402704.747157] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present
Mar 29 07:33:11 server2 kernel: [12402704.747169] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
Mar 29 07:33:11 server2 kernel: [12402704.749866] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present
Mar 29 07:33:11 server2 kernel: [12402704.749870] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
Mar 29 07:33:11 server2 kernel: [12402704.751987] sdb: sdb1 sdb2
I haven't been able to determine how auto mounting is controlled, so I can't disable it on the first machine. I don't know if that has anything to do with not being able to write the partition table.

Re: F15: fdisk unable to write partition table for sd card

Somebody seems to believe the cards are write protected.

Try a different card reader or flip the write protection switch.

If you want to re-partition them you can use the other machine ;-)
