Re: get rid of unused languages in kde install

For US-only you should need only kde-i18n-3.5.x.y. i.e. the basic kde-i18n followed indimmediately by the version tag.

Probably, the following works:

1. Step: make a list to afilenamed e.g. KillList
[root@rmu40]# yum list installed kde-i18n-\* | grep ^kde | awk '{ print $1 }' | tee KillList
kde-i18n.noarch
kde-i18n-Finnish.noarch
kde-i18n-German.noarch
kde-i18n-Hungarian.noarch

2. Step: Edit the file and remove the package you want to keep

3. Step: Do the removal using yum

[root@rmu40 ]# yum remove $(cat KillList )

You'll see alist what yum wants to remove. Check this list carefully rather than blindly hitting y (for yes)!!!! There may be dependencies to rpm packages you nevertheless like to use.

Hope that helps!

Hi.
I agree. Far too many languages put in at install-and updated!
I only wanted English (UK) and English (American)...as a back up maybe ;-)

Instead had 26 other languages, mainly Asian, Middle Eastern, Far Eastern. Not needed. Not wanted. I do not understand why so many put in at install instead of only during subsequent updates perhaps-if someone wants them.

Great distro though .but way too many languages

Re: get rid of unused languages in kde install

What seems to be the problem? It does say "Cleanup", doesn't it?

You explicitly installed everything, which wasn't a very bright idea ;-)

Next time try

Code:
yum group install "KDE Software Compilation"
instead.

Re: get rid of unused languages in kde install

(1) where did I install everything? If a package needs updating, update it.

(2) Obviously I could NOT post everything from the yum update due to its size 1.1 Gig

so I posted a few lines from the cleanup to show an update for languages was involved

(3) your words invite a flaming war popular on these forums. Learn to be sure of what you are saying before

shooting off your comments. I will overlook your comments for now
