Help with "screen" and rtorrent.

I cannot attach anything to a screen, I want to attache rtorrent to a screen but every time I try it will say that "screen is terminating" and show a fresh window. yes I do have screen installed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help with "screen" and rtorrent.

What exactly are you trying to do?

You open a terminal window like gnome terminal. Then you start

Code:
screen
You can "attach" any program you want like this. e.g.

Code:
top
Now you can close the terminal window. You might get a warning that the process will be killed, but you can ignore this warning, because you have "screen". The program will continue to run in the background.

Later you can open another termial and resume the session

Code:
screen -r

Re: Help with "screen" and rtorrent.

I have a page on screen and tmux at http://home.roadrunner.com/~computer...creentmux.html

Anyway, I wonder how you're closing screen. You open it, run your rtorrent command, then you should do

ctl+a+d

You should now have back a terminal.

Then, when you want to see how the torrent is doing

screen -r

Re: Help with "screen" and rtorrent.

I still cant get this to work, I am not able to attach any thing to screen. I can run rtorrent by itself but when I try to attach it to a screen it just says screen is terminating. When I try and list the screens it says there are no screens.

The only way I can attach anything to screen is if I do:
"sudo screen rtorrent"
but when I do this it will not load my session that already has torrents loaded.

Re: Help with "screen" and rtorrent.

If you have an existing session, and try to attach to that, no you can't--at least not as far as I know.

You firs type screen

Then, in screen, you begin an rtorrent session

rtorrent perfectly_legal_linux_iso.torrent

The rtorrent program should start doing it's thing. This is a NEW rtorrent, not one that was running before you ran screen.

Now you do ctl+a+d

The screen should detach. Now if you do screen -r it should reattach.

So, from the top.

You do NOT have rtorrent trying to fetch perfectly_legal_linux_iso.torrent.

You now open screen with the command

screen

Now, in this terminal, you type

rtorrent perfectly_legal_linux_iso.torrent

Is screen terminating when you do that?
