Users and Groups doesn't open

I'm using XFCE desktop with FC16 64 bit

When I choose Users and Groups from Administration menu, I get the authentication I enter my password and the interface never opens--I get nothing.

I want to be able to set and unset auto login and I seem to remember that Users and Groups is the place to do it.

I'm willing to change this setting via terminal or editing a particular file if you can tell me what to do, but I'm wondering why it'snot coming up--a sympton of other issues perhaps?

Here is terminal output for system-config-users

reuven@Reuven-Fedora:/$ system-config-users
No protocol specified
system-config-users requires a currently running X server.
RuntimeError: 'could not open display'

Same here, can't run system-config-users and system-config-date says, "...requires a currently running X server. RuntimeError: 'could not open display'" (system-config-samba crashes totally). Running Fedora 16 and MATE.

Re: Users and Groups doesn't open

Always ":1.0", I've tried this:

Code:
[~]$ echo $DISPLAY
:1.0
[~]$ system-config-users
asks for password in GUI as usual and then after some thinking
Code:
No protocol specified
system-config-users requires a currently running X server..
RuntimeError: 'could not open display'
[~]$ su
Password:
I enter password in terminal, but after that 'su' thinking some time and logging in correctly
Code:
[root]# echo $DISPLAY
:1.0
[root]# system-config-users
No protocol specified
system-config-users requires a currently running X server..
RuntimeError: 'could not open display'
[root]# exit
exit
also with sudo
Code:
[~]$ sudo echo $DISPLAY
:1.0
[~]$ sudo system-config-users
No protocol specified
system-config-users requires a currently running X server..
RuntimeError: 'could not open display'
[~]$

That means the app couldn't open the X-server. It's unclear why you have a problem. Ca nyou start a simple X1 app ?
xclock &

If you type
xhost +
then start the system-config-users app does it work ?

Re: Users and Groups doesn't open

xclock start without any problem... either under sudo or directly, but not in su root login, same error here,
Code:
No protocol specified
Error: Can't open display: :1.0

xhost + "helps" - system-config-users works after that...

UPD. Also I can't run xhost + under su with same error, but if I run xhost + before su, I can run xclock and system-config-users after that under su. Looks like root have no access to X-server?
