mgetty am_tool.tar contains corrupted files

I've been looking into the code base for mgetty and found that there are bogus files in the 'frontends/voice/am_tool.tar'. After doing some pawing around it seems that every distro back to 1.1.12 has the same problem. How does one find the correct content? (i assume the content is of little or no value if it has been this way for years).....
