Smile Firefox asking for flash plugin ?

Running fedora 17 on ibm thinkpad t60.

Install of F17 went fine, when I go to a site that has video to display
a box pops up in upper right corner that says "install plugin"
The file I download is in RPM format.

I don't know how to install it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !

Re: Firefox asking for flash plugin ?

go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ download the rpm package either the repo or the flash file itself. then its rpm -ivh <filename>.rpm, or if you have it rp-Uvh <filename>.rpm. Though i always suggest yum localinstall <filename>.rpm

Re: Firefox asking for flash plugin ?

Or do this (the instructions are for Fedora 16 but the procedure is the same for 17)

http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...f16.html#flash

This is better in the long run because any updates will show automatically when you run a check-update

(although it's possible there will be few flash updates any more due to Adobe dropping flash on Linux)

Plus there's a new flash-plugin that came through the repos today.....for x64 anyway.

Or simply click on the Fedora Set-Up Guides (link in yellow above and use either EasyLife or AutoPlus.

Re: Firefox asking for flash plugin ?

Flash player is now in good working order !

Thanks be to Trekkie for the help.
Your good reply to my question of non-working flash-player
has me more confident of using Fedora 17.

I was surprised how fast it installed the package plugin.
Thanks

Re: Firefox asking for flash plugin ?

Or may be Gnash would improve and replace flash requirements ...

Either flash but via the "pepper" generic API, or the free route is gnash or for converted videos HTML5
