Horizontal lines while playing video

Hi All,

I'm new to this forumn and to fedora linux.

Recently, i have done a fresh fedora 17 64 bit installation on my desktop.

I have installed all the required plugins for movie player software and played a mp4 file.

And i see few horizontal lines here and there in the video which is so annoying me.

Someone help me in troubleshooting the problem.

Below are my Hardware details.

You don't have an old sony trinitron crt, do you? Try

Code:
mplayer -vo gl filename.mp4

mplayer -vo gl2 filename.mp4
Better now?

Re: Horizontal lines while playing video

Hi , Thanks for your input.

Yeah, it's certainly better with the mplayer. I'll also tried playing video in SMPLAYER which i believe it's a GUI for mplayer and i got a decent output.

But in VLC player i still seeing the flickering issue.

Thanks for your help as i tried playing video in SMPLAYER only after tring via mplayer as per your post.

Can you let me know if flickering issue is specific to media players ?

btw i'm using DELL 24inch LED monitor.

Re: Horizontal lines while playing video

I seem to recall some issues with the Geforce 8 series cards, but can't recall right off if that was one of the issues.
