Restoring files from Fedora 16, to Fedora 17

Hi,
I have just upgraded my Fedora 16 to 17. I backed up all my Home files from ver 16 using a backup app and I would like to restore them to my new ver-17.

Would this be a problem? Or is there a way I can restore them to a new folder on my desktop so I can sort out what I need?

I don't want to take a chance on overwriting anything on my new Fedora so I am trying to be very cautious.

Help would be greatly appreciated

This would all depend on what the restore options are for the backup app that you used.

Check the docs for your backup app.

Documents, Pictures etc. should be fine. Some configuration files might be a problem. It might be best to try them one-by-one and/or back-up the F17 configuration files first. The Firefox configuration (~/.mozilla) should be okay though.

Depending how the back-up was made and restored, you may need to reset the ownership of the files:

su -c "chown -R your_user_name: ~your_user_name"
