grub hard disk error after removing secondary hard disk with fc2 installed

hi all

my machine has 2 ide hdd, one primary and one secondary. the primary contains win xp pro and the secondary was added so as to accomodate a fc2 installation.

recently i removed the secondary hard drive that contained fc2 and now when i try to boot up the system there is an error message: GRUB Hard Disk Error.

I have tried using linux rescue from the boot disc but there are no linux files left on the system and the secondary hard disk has been reformatted so i cant put it back in to edit grub. any suggestions?

I think you need to replace the master boot record on the XP disk using the XP install CD.

Yep, to paraphrase Ramped from this thread: http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31484 , you should be able to go into the Windows XP CD and go to the recovery console, then type 'fixboot' and 'fixmbr'.
