Up2date runs forever

Up2date sucks.

yum update

instead.

Yes, up2date is a bit slow when you have chosen a lot of updates. But, it is stable and works. I see it as a break to order a pizza

Try this - log in as root, open terminal and enter 'yum update'. I've found YUM to be a lot easier and works really fast - at least in comparison to up2date. I also tried to use up2date, but found the slowness to be really irritating. I have waited as long as 8 hours and the up2date still wasn't working. Trying yum may be one solution. I'm trying to figure out how to configure '/etc/yum.conf' so I can add other repositories to it, but this noob hasn't figured that out yet.....

I rebooted and started up2date over from scratch before I left for work this morning. So, when I get home in 9 hours or so, we'll see where we are.

Want to hear something ironic about my regular job?

I work in the distributed operating systems standards group for a fortune 100 company. Our group is responsible for setting the standards for *all* distributed operating systems in use as servers for *all* data centers worldwide. We test the new OSes, approve patches, etc. Basically, we're the operations technology group for the company and *all* of its subsidary companies.

So, here's the irony: each person in this group is a technical lead for one of the distributed operating system platforms. I'm the technical lead for Windows Server and its standards worldwide for all companies we own.

Yeah .. and at home I'm trying to convert to a Linux OS. How's that for irony?
