Problem installing updates after installing MySQL 4.1.11

Ok, I'm a MS developer (hold your fire) who has seen the light. I'm learning as fast as I can and have been very impressed with Fedora. I am running into a problem that I can't resolve alone and can't find an answer on Google:

I installed FC3 and included ALL the options (full install) so I can learn all the pieces of Fedora. I want to develop some Jabber tools and it needed more than the MySQL 3.23 that installed with the OS. I upgraded to 4.1.11 and all was fine.

When I went to get current using the Up2Date GUI, the problem came up. I keep getting this warning when I try to update almost anything. It seems that lots of apps depend on MySQL. Here is the warning:

I'm pretty clueless about how updates work so any help would be rewarded with copious amounts of praise and admiration.

what its saying is that you have some newer versions and some older version of mysql. My recommendation is use yum to update it seems more effective than up2date plus I think up2date will be deprecated.

In saying that the simplest way is to remove mysql and re-install. :P

I agree strikeforce's sugestion, because your devel of mysql is 4.1.11,but your mysql base is 3.23.58.

However, the answer was easier than you suggested. Until tonight I didn't know about YUM (I told you I'm new). Instead of uninstalling MySQL, I thought I would just see how 'smart' YUM is. I tried the following:

[root@localhost ~]# yum update

And after 440MB of EVERY update I needed, I am all updated.
