Xorg or XFree86

Which one is better? I've had a look at both sites and it seems both web sites are not very recent? Most of the Xorg events are from Feb 2004? I know the latest version of Xorg is 8.6.2 something and was released early this year. Xfree86 seems to have less support for GPU's.

How often are there updates to XOrg and Xfree86? Does it happen often? Currently the Radeon X700 is not supported by Xorg or XFree86 and I'll have to wait until it does get supported. I've tried a few distro's and they all have similar errors so I'm pretty convinces it's the X-windows system. The ATI drivers do list it as supported but I can't seem to get even the VESA drivers to work at any resolution.

Xorg is the latest. Debian was sort of the last distro to switch to Xorg from XFree86.
