FC4 System slow after recent yum update

From Friday night (last time I did a yum update), my system has been running really slowly at times - taking forever to repaint the (Gnome FC4) screen, even with no application running. Looking at the /var/log/cron file, I seem to get log messages every 5 minutes.

Aug 15 20:50:01 server crond[22084]: (root) CMD (/usr/bin/mrtg /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg --lock-file /var/lock/mrtg/mrtg_l --confcache-file /var/lib/mrtg/mrtg.ok)

Any idea what could be causing this, and any suggested fix (assuming it is abnormal behaviour!)?

I had this with Fedora 3 once. After two reboots, the system ran normal again. So trying that again wouldn't hurt, I guess. I have not encountered any such thing with FC4 and I have all available updates installed.
