make and make install command is not working

I don't know why after de archiving and making the ./configure command run, the terminal says "checking host system type... configure: error: can not guess host type; you must specify one". Also when typed make it says "make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop." And if typed the 'make install' command it says no such command exists. What is going wrong.

You must run the "./configure" command succesfully before you can proceed to the "make" phase. Read the config.log file created by running configure to see what the problem is.
