[FC 4] Hangs during startup

Hi!

I've got really serius problem with my Fedora 4.

Description:
When I start my machine everything is going well until hal daemon is started. A few seconds after that then system hangs totally (can't move mouse, can't switch to console).

My machine:
AMD Athlon 2500+, ATI radeon 9600, checked with memtest86 - everything is ok.

System state:
1. First time I've found this problem a few days ago on my system that worked for me for months. System was fully updated. There were graphics drivers from livna. Rarely system liked to hang during startup, but mouse was active, and I was able to switch to console and startx - it worked well. Suddenly this kind of behaviour become persistent, it means I was not able to normally start X (always have to switch to console and login and then startx).
I played around this trying different drivers to my graphics cart (livna, ati), different kernels, but there was no difference. Then I removed HAL and system was down.. gnome said bye bye etc. and the problem still existed. So I reinstalled whole system.

2. Second time is now. I've got fresh FC4 (3-rd day), standard graphics drivers. It worked well at the beginning. Today it has started to hang during a boot, as I described in the first paragraph. System is fully updated. I didn't updated HAL yesterday.. yes there were some updates but I can't see anything strange in yum log.

How I can start the system:
I removed rhgb quiet from grub.conf and it boots into text mode. I log in (sometimes I can't log in: I write username and it asks for username again, again, again...) , startx and it works perfectly well. But I want standard behaviour!

Here is similiar thread for FC 3, but generally it leaves the problem unsolved.

I kindly ask for some clues on what to check in my system, or maybe I just should put it into bugzilla (as I was suggested on my local Fedora forum).

Hi,

Could you please try disabling SELinux and see if it works. I had a problem with repetative logins with no success and this solved it.

You can check here to see how to disable SELinux.

Regards,

If you have problems with the policy post to the fedora-selinux list or file bug reports. Disabling security features altogether is a bad idea

I've tried this, but there is no change. With or without selinux Fedora hangs when is started normally, when it's started with no "rhgb quiet" parameter I can't login because it keeps asking for login, when started with "3" instead of "rhgb quiet" I can log in normally an then startx.

I did have some but that was on a pre-Test1 Fedora Core 5 and the folks cleared it out, someone had the same problem and had already posted that info.
