Re: Disk thrashing ~1 hour after boot up

Furthermore, it isn't malware or even bloatware - they are automated system...

Re: Wine resolution problems (More like zoom maybe?)

Sorry, I never did resolve this... Updates to Wine a couple year back fixed it for me (I think), but since then I've built a dedicated gaming rig that I dual-boot on so I have't used wine at all for...

Re: Get your Linux game on!

Most of those you could probably play with modern integrated graphics (Intel HD 3000 / AMD APUs) albeit on low settings. For some of the FPS games like Nexuiz or Sauerbraten you'll definitely need a...

Re: HDD Bad Sectors

As stevea mentioned, drives sometimes remap a sector upon N failed reads, but it's usually only upon a failed write that this happens.

If the drive has bad sectors but those sectors have never...

Re: how to use 5GHz band

It could be a bug in the driver, but as JEO mentioned it can be difficult to get a NIC to select the 5GHz automatically. Generally the NIC will only switch over if the signal strength is higher, and...

Re: Howto for fglrx / catalyst (Ati driver)

AMD included a new 32-bit shared library in the 64-bit builds, so to avoid having the x86_64 build pull in glib.i686 and a bunch of other 32-bit dependencies, I removed that library from the build. I...

Re: Mounting .iso

I believe gvfs can mount ISOs in userspace as well if you are using GNOME. Just right-click the ISO and there's an option to browse the files inside.

Re: Howto for fglrx / catalyst (Ati driver)

This is a known bug in Catalyst 11.11 - disabling Xv video output (and using OpenGL for example) resolves the crash until AMD can fix the driver.
