ext4 >16TB worth waiting?

Hi all,

I am a bit in a pickle. I used ext4 for a 15TB storage array and now added a few more 2TB drives. I didn't do my homework when I decided to use ext4 and I am stuck at 16TB, because e2fsprogs do not support this.

I am reading in postings from 2010 that these tools will be updated to support >16TB. But up until version 1.41.14 this has not happened.

I am currently thinking of moving all my data to an XFS based file system. I had good experiences with XFS in the past, and I don't understand what got into me using ext4 this time :-(

The thing is it will take a long time to move 15TB of data. Does anyone know if there is any chance if e2fsprogs will support >16TB partitions in the near future?

Re: ext4 >16TB worth waiting?

There is a branch of e2fsprogs that should do the job,

I wouldn't trust my files to such experimental code.
You'd better perform a good search of the alternative file systems before proceeding.
IMO btrfs looks like the premiere Linux FS of the future, but the performance today is average, some greate features though.
