    Wammu and Nokia 3110

    Hi,
I'm trying to configure wammu to recognize my phone. I can't find help from wammu's web page.

I use USB connection and my phone is Nokia 3110 classic. It should be supported by wammu. Wammu's automatic phone detection doesn't find my phone so I have to configure it manually. What I need is port where the phone is connected and connection type. For connection type wammu's page advices fbus.

The first thing I need is then to know what is the port where my phone is connected. Command lsusb gives:
    Code:
    [tony@localhost dev]$ lsusb
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 016: ID 0421:005e Nokia Mobile Phones
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 046d:c312 Logitech, Inc. DeLuxe 250 Keyboard
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 046d:c521 Logitech, Inc. MX620 Laser Cordless Mouse
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0411:0157 MelCo., Inc.
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 059f:1010 LaCie, Ltd Desktop Hard Drive
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0409:005a NEC Corp. HighSpeed Hub
I don't know what the above means? What is the port? /dev/???
    Can you help?

    Thank you in advance!

    -Tony

I use wammu and have noticed that the configuration fails on a non-root account. The work-around I usually use is to open a terminal and launch wammu as

    Code:
    sudo wammu
For manual configuration, open a terminal, then as root, run the command

    Code:
    tail -f /var/log/messages
This is a continuous command so dont worry if your prompt does not come back. Unplug your phone and plug it back in. Wait for it to load and from the terminal, you will be able to see the port that the phone has been assigned.

To be able to run wammu from your user account, you should add yourself to groups dialout and uucp.

Thank you both! Wammu almost works now. I still can't get messages out of my phone. I'll look into it and report later.
