To answer kona0197's question, the typing data sent to Microsoft is (I am guessing) for spell check, to find what words aren't in the dictionary - people's names for example. The suggestion that Windows sends home your every key stroke is too crazy, no security person at Microsoft would approve of something so stupid. Then there are things like what hardware you have and what software you have installed. After installing Inkscape I now see an ad in the start menu suggesting Photoshop. Data is collected to improve ai and also to sell you stuff through Windows Store. The store is Microsoft's new way of making money from their ordinary home users.

@jeffnz agree with you, and it's not just Microsoft, unless you opt out, anything you do online is tracked by 'internet service providers' who are free to do what they want with the data
