Too many Workspaces

I am using Beryl with a ATI card and open source drivers. It was working great but now all the suddon my workspaces are messed up. In the bottom right of my screen the switcher shows 4 desktops. But when i hold ctrl+alt and drag with mouse I see around 10 maybe (hard to count there is so many) workspaces. I dont know how this happened but how can i get it back to 4?

It happens sometimes after an update, you want to look in this section and make sure the settings are sane.
