Looking for a gnome panel applet

I'm looking for something that can sit in the panel and remotely check POP/IMAP servers for new messages without an email client having to be open. I know I've seen tools like this before, but for the life of me, I can't remember what any of them were called. Any suggestions?

You're looking for the gnome-biff-applet. That my not be the exact name, but if you can google it, it's what you want.

Thanks! That looks perfect! For anyone else interested, the command is:
yum install gnubiff
Mucho appreciated,

There is also another option for this purpose... "mail-notification". Its not an applet, but is similar. mail-notification sits in your notification area.
