more then one network cards

can i connect more then one network card to one system and work simultaneously with different network connections.

I do, I have remote desktop/vnc + remote-VM consoles over one nic, and my file shares over the other.
No internet on this box.
HP dv5000 1.8GHz F9......Apple G4 500MHz F8 (dev-box)......ASRock 2x 1.8GHz CentOS 5.2

Oh yea - that's how I build up these little firewall/router boxen here.

Toss in some Fedora substance
Sprinkle with a bit of iptables scripting

Shake to suit and enjoy.

Old PCs are very handy and often quite cheap for this duty. Lots of room usually left over for other netowrking services. DNS, DHCP, HTTP, SSH, FTP, SMTP, etc.....
If it ain't broken - you're not really trying....
