FC2: Gnome can't add menu items

FC2: I can't add new items to my main menu. There is a menu option that says "entire menu -> add new item to this menu" that is always greyed-out.

In KNOW you are supposed to add a link in /usr/share/applications But I don't want to be bothered.

AND HELLO!? The menu item that says "entire menu -> add new item to this menu" . Which implies that you should be able to use it to add items, right? Am I missing sth. here? like a brain?

Why is this?
Was it ever intended to work?
If it is in the menu, but it doesn't work, and you aren't supposed to use it, then WTF?
Have I missed a package update?

Please enlighten the darkness. Anyone?
If you find my brain, please advise...

Remember, you're not supposed to edit the menu!

The menu entries are all supposed to be handled by the packages you install, automatically. If you install firefox, a firefox entry should be made in the correct subfolder in the menu, which is Internet by the way.
