Special keys on IBM ThinkPad T42

I have old laptop IBM ThinkPad T42 and Fedora 10 on it. Almost everything is working perfectly, but there is one "problem". When I turn volume up or down with my special keys on keyboard, the volume turns up (or down) but not the system volume (same with mute). Simply, I press volume down button, the volume turns down but there is no system indication and the volume indicator in fedora is in the same position. In that case I have two independent volume controllers. Same with changing brightness, the brightness change, but without indication in system. When I've tried ubuntu (few weeks ago) it works perfectly, there was indicator on the monitor that showed that I'm changing volume and the system volume changed. But not in fedora. Do you know what with that?

When I run it, it simply shows the national keysets, I don't think that that's right. I will post a screenshot which shows that indicator what I want to get. It's on my PC where it works correctly (when I change the volume with special keys on my Genius Comfy Keyboard).

On my laptop the volume is increasing or decreasing (physically) but system shows only full volume and no indicator, just like I don't press anything. On ubuntu it worked corretly like on my PC, so it can't be nothing serious.
