I installed everything on that list

I logged out, restarted, tons of times.

I do not have the im-switch tray icon, nor can I type in chinese.

Please tell me what to do next.

Any help is appreciated.

System->Preferences->Input Method Make sure there is a check mark in the Enable Input Method Feature box. There is also an option in there to set your preferences for scim plus on the key combination to activate it. You usually need to be in a program like openoffice.org or gedit for it to activate.
