Can i use grub without legacy usb support?

Is it possible to use grub loader without legacy usb (with usb keyboard)? When I have it enabled it takes forever to get past the bios boot screen because I have an external usb harddrive.
these command lines are like casino slot machines, every time I input commands NOTHING HAPPENS
