Question Power management on fedora 15: poor battery life

hi, just upgraded to f15 x86_64.. i use a VPCCEB3Z1E vaio laptop and i noticed that my laptop can't last more than half past an hour running from battery in wireless productivity (just surfing the net and make some word processing, so nothing so heavy...)

i use kde 4, installed cpupowerutils (replacement for cpufrequtils), put the modules acpi_cpufreq, cpufreq-ondemand -powersave and the other governors in /etc/rc.d/rc.local for loading them at boot..

edited profiles in powerdevil (every profile has cpupowerutils freq-set -g and the name of a governor) but i still notice no changes...

how i can get a better power management on this laptop? fan still runs at high speed

sorry for my bad english and thanks in advice

Re: Power management on fedora 15: poor battery life

    Heya

After reading your post at my local time ~ 14:00, i unpluged my laptop from power.
Was watching a movie whiel browsing the forums, so i finshed watching the movie: about 30mins.

However, F15 was claiming to run on low battery just from the moment i unpluged the power.
    I ignored that.

For some reason i wanted to reinstall F15 after movie was done, done :P
Copying 7.7gb of a dvd to local drive, wrote a guide, and downloaded like another 1gb mainwhile.

Anyhow, during about 2.5-3h F15 was telling me i'd run on low bat, the time i really had a low bat (less than 25%) it was still running fine, allthough the screen was darkned after like 50% battery power.

Do you experience REALLY low battery life (fast power drain), or do you refer to the error message?

PS: Anyhow, WiFi does eat some amount of power, rather than wired internet which i used.

If you have a radeon/ati card, might look at:

What kind of Graphic card does your laptop have?
When the fan is high but you aren't stressing the processor I bet it is the GPU.
