Xine error while playing .avi file - mp4 video

am running Fedora 15 i386 release and just performed an update for packages.

yum update
The PAE kernel and Nvidia driver got updated as well as a few other packages.

When I come to playing a video with Xine I get this error:

xine video.avi

2 errors in postprocess string "hb:a,vb:a,dr:a"
[mpeg4 @ 0xaf800b80] Invalid and inefficient vfw-avi packed B frames detected
The interesting thing is that I can play the file without any problems under mplayer and even Xine played the files fine before the update. I'm reckoning this might be a bug?

I don't know if ffmpeg is used to play back mp4 files by Xine but here's my current version nevertheless:

Can any one give me a hand or do I need to post a bug report?

Re: Xine error while playing .avi file - mp4 video

I managed to find out some more information on this, however it still doesn't rectify the problem:

There are many more using the search string:

however it does seem to be an ffmpeg related issue or at least a library or codec based issue.....

I'm just pressing the matter as I do prefer Xine over Mplayer even though if I recall Mplayer worked better with Nvidia cards then Xine which works better for ATI ones? But anyway the rendering seemed better in Xine in anycase.

Re: Xine error while playing .avi file - mp4 video

I have suffered the same problem

rpm -qa '*ffmpeg*'

yum downgrade ffmpeg-libs

ffmpeg-libs.i686 0:0.7-0.3.20110612git.fc15

ffmpeg-libs.i686 0:0.6.90-0.2.rc0.fc15

xine now works. Imho it is a bad idea to include git shapshots...
