Right click on htm/html file and select firefox (or preferred application) from drop down menu. In the same drop down menu you can select properties and set the application to open file.

Also, there's no good reason for any html files to be set executable, remove all "x" bits on their mode

The htm/html file are on Windows partition. Ir does not allow to change permissions. There is no firefox or preferred application option. I think i have to live with this dialog box.

Given that it's unlikely that you want to execute files from the Windows partition in Linux, you could add "noexec" to the Windows partition's mount options in /etc/fstab. Then the execute permissions will go away.

    Re: Opening htm/html Files

fwiw with fedora 15, xfce and thunar there is no dialog popup when double-clicking an html file, it just opens firefox. Even with chmod 777 on the html file there isn't any dialog when double-clicked. selinux is disabled on my workstation.

Oops, this may not matter, I'm using an ext4 drive not ntfs.
